Employees of igr visited the construction site of the local bypass Imsweiler with a lot of interest. The excursion was organized by VSVI district group and LBM Kaiserslautern. The project includes 399,5 m tunnel, a viaduct with a length of 222 m and the junction areas north and south leading to the already existing B 48. The construction part of the south tunnel portal was presented first.

The engineers are facing a big challenge caused by the building land. Changing layers, unstable slopes and rocks containing mineral oil are also an immense cost driver.

During the second part of the excursion the bridge construction was visited. The 1.500 t construction with a hollow steel body has only one pillar and spans the river "Alsenz" and the Deutsche Bahn track Bingen - Kaiserslautern. After welding together, the bridge parts, which were delivered by high-load transporters, the bridge will be shifted for about 100 m to its final location by remote controlled self-propelled transport vehicles in the beginning of November.

igr supported this project since the spatial planning procedures and is responsibe for the implementation planning of traffic facilities and drainage. The excursion participants of igr would like to thank VSVI and LBM for these valuable impressions and wish a great success for the further construction.
