Flood protection dam in the ‘An der Salzbrücke’ industrial and business park in Ritschenhausen

The Ritschenhausen municipality is undertaking the refurbishment of the ‘An der Salzbrücke’ industrial and business park.

Subsidies were available to the municipality to help it in revitalising the abandoned site. An essential component of the project was to remove the risk of flooding from the park through the building of a ca. 650 m long and up to 1.5 m high flood protection dam along the Jüchsen water course. To keep the roads clear for the owners’ works traffic, the dam was partly completed with reinforced concrete flood protection walls and mobile stop log systems. As part of the project, an increase in retention volume for Jüchsen flood water of around 5,000 m³ was achieved through soil removal. Some necessary renovation work was also undertaken on the future storm water network in connection with flood protection. Automatic check valves and auxiliary slide valves were installed to close the storm water sewers in the case of flooding.

A newly constructed fully biological waste water treatment plant was integrated into the dam by embanking the area, so that adequate drainage will be secured in the event of a 100 year flood.
