Renaturisation/Laying out of a pond, Ruthweiler, district of Kusel

The Ruthweiler municipality intends to create a near-nature communication centre on a municipally owned area on the flood plain of the Pfeffelbach. The site lies in the transitional area to near-nature open land and offers an intensive experience of nature on and in the immediate vicinity of the development area. A new near-nature pond, fed by the neighbouring Pfeffelbach, will be created on the open space. Sunny stream banks will be developed as sub-habitats, in particular for amphibians.

An experience of water and nature (mud pools, barefoot path and balancing equipment made from natural materials) is the focus of the children’s play area. Adults and teenagers can linger by the pond or enjoy the near-nature scenery at the neighbouring barbecue area.

The project was agreed with the senior and junior nature conservation authorities and the Structure and Approval Directorate (SGD, regional authority for water management).
